Welcome to My Book of Wishes

Planning Your Journey

Book of Wishes is here to help with something that most people would rather avoid — talking about and preparing for our senior days or end-of-life. It is one of those topics we tend to tuck away in the very back of our minds, behind grocery lists, vacation plans, and remembering where we parked the car.

We all know that one day our time will come, but most of us treat it as though it is scheduled for the distant future, on a calendar we have not even bought yet. Whether we are reaching our golden years or facing health challenges, we often choose to believe that we still have plenty of time. Life can be like an ice cream cone on a hot day. Distracted by how good it is, but then melting faster than you can keep up with.

Perhaps you have already met with an attorney. Perhaps you have written a will, set up a trust, and listed who gets what, from heirlooms to houseplants. But even with all of that in place, many people still feel anxious, as if there is more to be said.

That is what this book is for. It is a space for wishes, thoughts, and personal touches that go beyond. It invites us to think ahead with grace, honesty, and maybe even a little humor. If we can laugh about it just a little, it might make the conversation a whole lot easier.

I was my father’s caregiver for four years and his assistant for a few years prior to that. I watched him slowly succumb to the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. We never really talked about his final days, it was too heartbreaking. Looking back, I regret not using that time to ask the simple questions that I would one day need answers to. I was constantly torn between my desire to make his final days as meaningful as possible, and the quiet heartbreak of knowing they were slipping away.

Unless you live alone on a deserted island, someone will be caring for you. Could be one of your children, a neighbor, a hired caregiver, or a nursing facility, but you will be cared for at some level by someone. That someone needs to know all these things about you.

Each section of this book offers ideas, checklists, and helpful examples — from practical to deeply personal. It offers insight and shared experiences you may not have even thought about. You will discover charts, tips, and even a few tricks — not just for your caregivers, but for you too. It is a guide to help you navigate, express, and document your wishes for the now as well as prepare for the unknown. Included are legal and personal forms you can fill out and keep in this workbook. This book is your customized manual – your voice - your wishes – your story – all in one central location.

Your Book of Wishes becomes the Perfect Gift for you, and your loved ones.
